LEE USA SPEEDWAY TO TRY AGAIN FRIDAY NIGHT

Mother Nature waved a red flag on the season opener at Lee USA Speedway, Lee, NH., last Friday night, so the NASCAR sanctioned weekly racing operation will give it another try this Friday night as the Whelen All-American Series featuring the popular One Stop Toy Shop Late Models, Prime Storage Late Model Sportsman, The Mac Tools Supermodifieds, Planet Aid Hobby Stocks, Roadrunners, and American Auto Iron Man divisions will all see action.

An impressive turn out of racers made their way to the Rte 125 oval for last weeks anticipated opening. Many new drivers dot the track roster in all divisions. The new season will also find veteran racers returning for another go in the exciting world of  NASCAR short track racing.

Pre race warm-ups last week saw seasoned veteran “Chargin” Charlie Rousseau, Ipswich, MA turning some very quick times on the tracks computerized scoring and timing. system. Rousseau, an area racer since the 1960’s, will pilot the Ye’Olde Barber Shop/Art’s of Ipswich Late Model. Joining Rousseau is another long time veteran racer with a lot of success at the Lee oval. Scarborough, ME., ace Larry Gelinas returns to his old stomping grounds where he saw tremendous success in the former pro-stock division.

The speedways entry level divisions, the Roadrunners, are showing a strong car count drawing a favorable reaction from track management. Track Manager Bob Watson is pleased with what he saw in last week’s abbreviated event.  “We welcome them, we are happy to have them, we are glad that Lee is their track of choice.” said the veteran race track operator.

New at Lee this season is the already popular “Kids Zone” presented by Swings “N” Things of Kingston, NH. Kids Zone is a children’s playground near the speedways start- finish line and adjacent to the all new “Family Zone” grandstand seating. Local food vendors have been added to the Lee midway and the popular Checkered Flag Pub is open for the racing season.

Race time is 7:15 PM, Friday night, May 9th, with heat races preceding feature races. The Late Model division will contest in a 50 lap main event.  Admission is only $10 for adults, $6 for age 11-15 and children 10 and under is always admitted free.
