Sands Wins Lance Davis Memorial; Soucy, Lattime, Shorey, Farrington, & Tellier Take NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Wins.

Lee, NH -  Jay Sands of Hampton continued his impressive 2015 Late Model Sportsman campaign at Lee USA Speedway on Friday night, capturing the win in the prestigious Lance Davis Memorial 50-lapper for the R & R Public Wholesale-sponsored division.  Sands was just one of eight feature winners on another exciting night of racing action at New Hampshire’s “Center of Speed”.

Polesitter Nate Leavitt of Buxton, ME battled side by side with Newmarket’s Bryan Kruczek for the first several laps before finally giving up the lead and dropping back a couple of spots.  A lap 10 caution for a spin by Jimmy Ryder saw Kruczek, Jay Sands, and Leavitt leading the way, with Sands quickly moving to the front when racing resumed. At lap 20, it was Sands, Kruczek, former champ Grant Aither of Kingston, Leavitt, and Frankie Eldridge of Stratham filling the top five spots, and Aither was on the move.  He slipped past Kruczek shortly after the restart to take over second, and immediately began to pressure Sands for the top spot. On lap 39, Aither completed his charge to the front, but he fell on bad fortune during a lap 44 restart sequence, ending his night with a trip into the retaining wall.  Sands once again took command of the race, holding the top spot for the final six circuits to collect the big win. Brentwood’s Jimmy Russell was up to contend in the late going and eventually settled for runner-up honors, with Thomas Bennett, George Helliwell of Pelham, Frank Wear, Alby Ovitt of Barrington, Neil Evans, Jr., Kruczek, and Mike St. Pierre rounding out the top ten finishers.
*Edit: The 33x and 63 cars failed post-race inspection and have been removed from their finish positions

The EKeys4cars Supermodifieds contested twin 25-lap feature events on the night, with two first time victors adding their names to the winners’ list, as rookie competitor Jarrod Soucy of Hudson, MA and veteran Moe Lattime of Kingston both made their first trips to victory lane for the season. Soucy, the 15-year old freshman sensation, outran multi-time champion Tommy Tombarello, Jr. of Haverhill, MA, and Mike Murphy of Groveland, MA to collect the checkers in the first 25-lapper, picking up the win in just his fourth start at Lee USA. Northfield’s Leslie Keyser, Kingston’s Kyle Sawyer, Mike Ordway, Jr. of Fremont, Moe Lattime of Kingston, Mike Spurling of Rochester, Artie Rousseau of Newmarket, and Tilton’s “Super Dave” Sanborn closed out the top ten.

In the nightcap, Lattime chased down early leader Sawyer to slip past in traffic to take the lead on lap 14, and he never looked back, running out front the rest of the way to take his first checkered flag of the 2015 season in the Dick Osborne entry. Tombarello strengthened his points lead with just a single event remaining on the 2015 calendar when he scored his second runner-up of the night, followed by Sawyer, Ordway, Sanborn, Spurling, Soucy, Keyser, Meredith’s Jim Barker, and Lance Barthelemy of Fremont.

Another former champion made his presence known in a big way in the David’s Race Cars and Components Hobby Stock feature event, as Jim Shorey ran the storied Doug Ricker machine to yet another feature win in the 25-lap main event.Shorey got to the front early, and was easily the class of the field as he went the distance to collect his first feature win of the season by a comfortable 2.6-second margin.  Paul Palen of Pelham scored a second place finish, with Brian DeStefano of Tewksbury, MA rounding out the podium in third. 2014 Rookie of the Year Zac Fraser of Nottingham posted a solid fourth place finish, followed by “Billistic Bill” Helliwell of Pelham, points leader Dennis Dumas of Nashua, Kenny Scott of Salem, Dave MacDonald of Tewksbury, MA, Chris Harding of Lebanon, ME, and Jay Avery of Berwick, ME.

Mike Farrington grabbed his first career win in the Tri-City Line-X Ironman feature event, holding off two-time 2015 winner and current points leader Troy Washburn of Farmington by just half a car length to collect the checkered flag and roll into the victory lane for the first time. Shane Horvath of Nottingham was third, followed by Tyler Mitchell of Dracut, MA, Hannah Shaw of Chester, Evan Horvath of Nottingham, Wayne Osborne of Kingston, Zach Washburn of Rochester, Travis Hollins of Milford, and Greg Brannan rounding out the top ten.

Jesse Tellier of Dracut, MA scored the Pure Stock win over Tyler Mailhot and Jack Nicholson.  The beautifully restored racers of the Senior Tour Auto Racers (STAR) were on hand as well, with Brian Robie of Charlestown, NH taking the Modified win over Scott Porier of Norwich, CT, Bobby Turner of Waterboro, ME, Darryl Dutch of Greenville, RI, and George Baldwin of Lowell, MA.

The Sportsman portion of the STAR program went to John Mulcahy of Lakeville, MA in his sharp 1965 Ford Mustang, followed by Richard Eastman of Merrimac, MA in his ‘71 Pinto Ollie Silva replica, Wade Worster of Berwick, ME, Frank Foley of Peabody, MA, and Joe Gausse of Londonderry.

The final regular Friday night event goes green on September 4, with the championships on the line for the EKeys4cars Supermodifieds, the R & R Public Wholesale Late Model Sportsmen, David’s Race Cars and Components Hobby Stocks, and the Tri-City Line-X Ironmen and Pure Stocks.

Phil Lausier wins Pro-4 Mod main, Ordway, Ryder, Helliwell, DeStefano, and Pyle take NASCAR Whelen All-American Series wins.

Lee, NH -  Hudson racer Phil Lausier ran off to the win in the first 2015 appearance by the Pro-4 Modifieds at Lee USA Speedway on Fridaynight, just one of six feature winners during yet another exciting night of racing action at New Hampshire’s “Center of Speed”.

Lausier jumped out to the lead early in the race, with second-generation racer Norman Wrenn III holding down the second spot until late in the event, when Dave Berghman got past to take runner-up honors.  Wrenn was third across the stripe, with Rob Richardi, Jr. and Derek Robbie rounding out the top five.

Continuing the good night for sons of former racers, Mike Ordway, Jr. of Fremont got past five-time winner Tommy Tombarello, Jr. and picked up his third win of the season in the Supermodified 30-lap main event aboard the storied Witkum Brothers Racing machine.

Ordway is now within 100 wins of his father, Mike’ Sr.’s record, many of those victories having come here at Lee USA in the Paul Dunigan big-block Supermodified.  The younger Ordway has been no stranger to victory lane here at Lee either, having won several feature events on his way to the Small Block Super championship a decade ago.

Artie Rousseau of Newmarket, whose father also logged many a lap in the Supermodified ranks in the early days of Lee USA nearly 30 years ago, led the first eight laps of the Super main before giving up the top spot to points leader Tombarello, who was looking for win number six on the season.

But Ordway was having no part of that, and he quickly reeled in the leader and moved past to take over the point.  Ordway went on to post the win by a .728 margin of victory over Tombarello, with Rochester’s Mike Spurling rounding out the podium with a solid third place effort.

Fourth place went to rookie driver Jarrod Soucy of Hudson, MA in the former Jake Stergios championship machine, followed by opening night winner “Super Dave” Sanborn of Tilton, Moe Lattime of Kingston, Lance Barthelemy of Fremont, Mike Keddy of Raymond, Jim Barker of Meredith, and Rousseau.

Hampstead’s Jimmy Ryder made his first-ever trip to the winner’s circle in the R & R Public Wholesale Late Model Sportsman 30-lapper, holding off a tough challenge from two-time winner Jimmy Russell of Brentwood to join the ranks of feature winners in the LMS this season.

Russell came across the stripe within a second of winner Ryder, with fan favorite Alby Ovitt of Barrington scoring his first podium finish of the season aboard his new ride, the Brian House, A Family Cab entry.  George Helliwell of Pelham took fourth, with newcomer Charlie Sanborn closing out the top five in his 2015 debut.

Sixth went to a resurgent Geoff Rollins, who recovered from an early crash to post a point-saving finish, followed by two-time 2015 winner Frankie Eldridge of Stratham, Jason Ryan of Salem, former champ Grant Aither of Kingston, and Ray Dinsmore of Waterboro, ME.

Twin 25-lap feature events were on tap for the David’s Race Cars and Components Hobby Stocks, with veteran competitor Pete Evans of Berwick, ME taking down the win in the first.  2014 Rookie of the Year Zac Fraser of Nottingham posted a strong second place finish in the first half of the best combined finish event.

Fraser was chased across the line by LMS regular Nate Leavitt of Buxton, ME, Bill Helliwell of Pelham, Billy Clement, Jr. of Milford, Dave McDonald of Tewksbury, MA, Kevin Bowman of Grafton, MA, Chris Harding of Lebanon, ME, and Kenny “Caveman” Scott of Salem.

In the nightcap, Helliwell (another son of a former Lee USA racer) got to the front early, and went on the not only post the 25-lap win, but he took the overall title as well, earning a $500 payday from division sponsor David’s Race Cars and Components.

Christin DeStefano of Tewksbury, MA scored her first career win in the Tri-City Line-X Ironman feature event, holding off three-time 2015 winner Zach Washburn of Rochester to collect the checkered flag and make that ever-elusive first trip to the winner’s circle.

Tyler Mitchell of Dracut, MA put in a strong third place run, with Travis Hollins of Milford, Hannah Shaw of Chester, Greg Brannan, Jack Victoria of Northwood, Troy Washburn of Farmington, Mike Farrington of  Northwood, and Howard Brown, Jr. rounding out the top ten.  Craig Pyle of Gorham, ME scored the Pure Stock win, followed by Jesse Tellier of Dracut, MA, and Tyler Mailhot.

Dave Schullick, Jr. tops ISMA Ollie Silva Memorial; Keyser, Russell, Dumas, Washburn, and Tellier take NASCAR Whelen All-American Series wins.

Lee, NH -  Ridgefield, Ohio’s Dave Schullick, Jr. strengthened his points lead in the International Supermodified Association (ISMA) 2015 championship battle at Lee USA Speedway on Friday night, taking his second career victory in the annual Ollie Silva Memorial Classic aboard the Jim Bodnar entry.

Jeff Locke of nearby Chester put in a solid run to close out the podium with a strong third place effort, with a pair of Ohio-based drivers, Timmy “J” Jedrzejek and Danny Shirey finishing up the top five.  Full results for the 75-lap Ollie Silva Memorial Classic (finishing position, driver, car number):

Leslie Keyser of Northfield picked up his second win of the season in the Ekeys4cars Supermodified main, running down and eventually taking the lead from rookie Mike Keddy of Raymond late in the race, and rolling into victory lane when flagmen Bryon Callen showed the checkers.

Young Keddy had a career night himself in his former Witkum Brothers Racing machine, picking up his first-ever heat race win during qualifying, and following that up by leading more than half of the main before coming across the stripe for a career-best second place finish.

Mike Ordway, Jr. of Fremont was third, with points leader Tommy Tombarello, Jr. of Haverhill, MA, Lance Barthelemy of Fremont, “Super Dave” Sanborn of Tilton, Mike Spurling of Rochester, Artie Rousseau of Newmarket, Kyle Sawyer of Kingston, and Jarrod Soucy of Marlboro, MA finishing up the top ten.

Just a week after Shane Horvath of Nottingham became the first three-time winner of the year in the Tri-City Line-X Ironman division, Zach Washburn of Rochester tied him atop the Ironman win board by grabbing his third checkered flag of the season in last Friday’s 25-lap main event.  Washburn held off a tough challenge from Christin DeStefano of Tewksbury, MA to score the win by a car length, with Horvath bringing home third place honors.

ISMA returns to Lee USA Speedway for the annual Ollie Silva Memorial Classic

Lee, NH - The biggest race of the 2015 Lee USA Speedway season is on the schedule for next Friday night, August 7, as the ground-pounding open-wheeled action of the International Supermodified Association (ISMA) comes to town for the annual Ollie Silva Memorial Classic at “New Hampshire‘s Center of Speed”.

Defending race winner Jon McKennedy of Chelmsford, MA has to be considered among the favorites again this year, he‘s coming off a big win in the Sandusky, Ohio Hy-Miler event two weeks ago, and currently sits second in the ISMA point standings behind second-generation racer Dave Shullick II of North Ridgefield, OH, who is also among those expected to contend. McKennedy is a former regular and multi-time winner in the Lee USA Small Block Supermodifieds, and he’s already visited ISMA victory lane here twice, in both 2014 and 2012 aboard the legendary Dunigan Racing entry. Rain postponed the 2013 edition of the race, making McKennedy king of the hill for the past three years at the fast 3/8th‘s mile speedplant. Jon has taken over the driving duties in the famed Clyde Booth machine for the 2015 season, and the combination has been potent since the drop of the season’s first green flag. Booth is no stranger to Lee’s victory lane either, as his machine topped the 2008 running of the race with current ISMA points leader “Shoe Two” at the wheel.

Other top ISMA contenders expected to appear for the event include current third place points man Jeff Locke of nearby Raymond, who sits just six points behind McKennedy in the 2015 standings, and has a long history of success at Lee dating back to his days aboard a Small Block. Locke already has a couple of top fives to his credit in the Ollie Silva driving his Locke Crane Services-sponsored big-block. Fourth place points man Mark Sammut makes the haul down from London, Ontario, Canada each year for the event, and his name is on the short list of winners since the race’s inception, taking home the big trophy after the 2009 running of the Ollie Silva Memorial. Although he’s only running a part-time schedule in 2015, ISMA’s all-time feature winner Chris Perley will be another fan favorite next weekend driving the legendary Vic Miller machine, and he’s got three Ollie Silva’s (2004, 2010, and 2011) to his credit, as well as a handful of other podium finishes including four seconds and a third at the Lee USA ISMA stop. Second-generation wheelman Eddie Witkum, Jr. of Westford, MA should be another counted among those to watch, he dominated the Lee USA Small Block Supers for a couple of years, and has been nothing short of impressive in his time on the ISMA tour. Witkum’s resume includes runner-up here to McKennedy in 2014, and a third behind Jon and NASCAR veteran Johnny Benson in 2012.

Other notables on the entry list include Dan Bowes of Byfield, MA, another former Lee USA Small Block champ whose best career ISMA finish is a runner up to Perley here in 2011. Multi-time champ Tommy Tombarello is working on an ISMA deal for the Ollie Silva, and he will be battling brother-in-law Justin Belfiore, also of Haverhill, MA, who was a podium finisher in 2011. Auburn’s Mike Netishen, Lyndell, PA driver Alison Cumens, Ben Seitz of Bourne, MA, Jamie Timmons of North Andover, MA, Tim Ice of Seville, OH, Timmy “J” Jedrzejek of Independence, OH, Lee USA Supermodified regular “Super Dave” Sanborn of Tilton, Rob Summers of Vernon, CT, and “Liquid Lou” Cicconi of Aston, PA are just a few of the drivers expected to compete.

As always, the race will be one of the highlights of the 2015 season, with lap times for the Supermodifieds expected to range somewhere between “did you see that?” and “holy cow!”. Be sure to get your ticket for the season’s most exciting event, the ISMA Ollie Silva memorial Classic this Friday night, August 7.
